The Cardinal's Guards are a small unit assigned to Cardinal Gardelieu, the primary cleric of Batrachia. They originated as a dragoon unit occasionally assigned to guard the Cardinal temporarily. That assignment has become permanent over the years. Little love is lost between the Cardinal's Guards and the Queen's Musketeers, partly due to the fact that the Guards are rarely sent into battle but mostly serve the Cardinal, guard visiting dignitaries and carry out other miscellaneous duties. The Guards often operate on foot since they work primarily in the city, although they can and do occasionally have some or all of their members on horseback when the situation calls for it.

*grin* . . . do I detect a bit of Dumas as a source of inspiration?

Brilliant - but they don't have religious faces at all! Look more like brutish strongarms.
Hopefully the Queen's Musketeers will be more elegant and noble-looking (if the Queen choses them herself...?).
Cheers,
Jean-Louis
Indeed Queen Suzette Musketeers DO look their part!
(I did not remember them at once because they look less like potentially dismounted cvalrymen than the Cardinal's).
Jeff, just a smidge, maybe... ;-)
Jean-Louis, you're questioning the piety of these gentlemen? (you may be right to do so...)
One thing I should say is the Batrachians are not vile. Rather they are honorable and just. They may just have a different point of view and different information than the Soweiter League. If anything, the vile Bossanovans may be playing the 2 nations off against each other, or some factions within Batrachia may have their own agenda (even if they are patriotic and think they are doing what is best for the Empire).
