This and That

Hill tribesmen are starting to gather...

under one of their banners.

Some dismounted horses. I added the saddle on the gray horse, using greenstuff.

Colonel Finlayson of Grand Thidwick.

And Colonel Chagrin, one day to be promoted to General Chagrin?

After the current campaign is concluded it looks like the Soweiter League is going to break up. The Germanic states will go their own way. As will Santa Sofia and probably Mayeux. I haven't fully decided, but I want to concentrate on Ballyfoole, Grand Thidwick, and Gunderland (the original name of Saxe-Urquhart, which that state will revert to.). I am thinking I will have those 3 states band together and pursue some adventures in far-off lands. Still trying to think up a name for the combined 3 states (I considered Freedonia, but I think that's been done a bit).

I'm feeling a bit like I hit the jackpot or something - I finally found a local source for 1/8 inch mdf board (a local plywood and paneling store, not a chain or big box store - one of those kinds of places that's a bit rough around the edges, but where the people know their business because they specialize in it.). Probably bought more than I will ever use, but I didn't want to run short again! ha ha
Now I can make some more mountains, river sections, buildings, etc. (funny how something this simple can make one so happy, eh?)

Great job - love the hill tribesmen and their bold flag!

I agree with the previous posts. I liked the hillmen and flag . . . and the rest of the figures as well.

I would not have known that you built the saddle if you had not told us . . . very nice, sir.

Thanks guys!
Just to be clear, I only did the actual saddle. It already had the saddle cloth, gun holders and stirrups, but there was either no saddle or it was underneath the saddle cloth. Sorry if my post above was misleading! :)

By the way, I'm open to ideas for a name for the combined states of Ballyfoole, Grand Thidwick and Gunderland. I could keep referring to them that way, but it would be nice to have a shorter name and an adjective.

The figures are all great, and I really love the flag. Any chance the hillmen might see some action in the near future?

Chris,
Some day. Maybe not near future. I want to build up a bit more of a force first. Of course, I could possibly do some kind of skirmish with just a few figures, but I'm still mulling things over.

Will the 'Latin' States of the league join Batrachia? Mayeux at least has something... froggy.
Eagerly looking forward to follow your adventures in the Indies!

Do Ballyfoole, Grand Thidwick and Gunderland share a common cultural feature putting them apart from the other members of the League? Some Dutch / German / Gypsy / Scandinavian heritage? A peculiar variant of a major religion? A common -and glorious- ruler, centuries ago? A common, if legendary, root in the Nibelungs (put the blame on Gunderland...)?
The Kriemhilder Kreis?

Mayeux could end up a province of Batrachia, depends on how the war goes.
Santa Sofia, who knows - they haven't figured prominently thus far anyway - so they may just wait in the wings for when I want an Italian character/unit/whatever for some reason.

Ballyfoole, Grand Thidwick and Gunderland are all English-speaking countries (with some proportion of Gaelic-speakers in 2 of those states). Possibly founded by free companies (like Grand Fenwick) or other mercenaries or "Wild Geese" at some point in the past. Sort of UK-like, on a much smaller and less-united scale, possibly. Basically, while I will have redcoats (for the GT units) I also like the greencoats of BF and the bluecoats and kilts of G.

Sounds almost like an 'idyllic' mini-version of the British Isles federated under Arthur with GT <=> Britain, Ballyfoole <=> Eirin, GL <=> Caldedonia...

Fitz-Badger said...

Yeah, sort of a mini UK, except maybe not under one monarch, retaining more independence between the 3 states. Sort of a loosely affiliated kngdoms (or principality, grand duchy and chiefdom or whatever Gunderland is).
