Cast Adrift

Here is one of the molds for casting a basic soldier.
And this is a mold for sword, musket and a bird. I hit on the idea of putting a cork in with the mini when I make the mold so it starts out with a good pouring hole. I had to cut a vent for the sword to cast well. The musket and bird cast well as is.

The results of an evening's casting. Poorly cast bits were remelted, but overall I have been getting pretty good casts within the first couple of tries.

You might notice the Highland cows - I made a mold for that mini and started casting it within an hour - and in spite of one of the cow's ears sticking into the mold, not along the parting line, it cast well right off the bat.

Wow! You have been very busy. Great molds and castings. I am especially fond of the terrier mascot. Please post a photo of him once painted.

Best Regards,

Stokes

Hi Fitz,

Those are going to be outstanding figures by the time you're done. Say....when you're casting them and the figures are popping out of the molds, do you have visions of armies that would require reinforcing the tabletop to take the added weight? If so, how do you stop the maddness?

Yours,

Martin

You're planing on making a whole lot of variants, huh?

Looking great!

What the heck is the bird for?

I had been thinking a while back of running a little campaign along the lines of Mordhiem except instead of playing fantasy warbands the players would each have a highland clan and instead of searching the damned city of Mordhiem for "wyrdstone" they would be raiding each others lands for sheep and cattle.... post game stolen sheep and cattle get sold to buy more equipment and hire new jocks...

I got as far as picking up a bag of Old Glory Jacobite highlanders and some Gripping Beast sheep... Your wooly highland cow just reminded me of this long lost plan....

I guess now that it's out Legends of the High Seas would be an easier conversion...

I promise to post painted pics when any of these are finished. I guess the terrier wouldn't be very exciting, being mostly black, but I'll post anyway.

Hi Martin,
I hadn't had visions like that so far...

Hi Tim,
Yeah, I like variety in my armies/units. :-)
The Highland clan cattle raid variation on Mordheim sounds very cool. If you ever get it going please keep us informed!

The bird was just something I had sculpted a long time ago from extra putty. I had space on the musket/sword mold to add it (it was the only thing I had ready that would fit). I guess they can be used as "corbies" or other birds in terrain, or maybe as a mascot or as a base for a hawk or parrot...
