Forces of Badness

The Royal Blackguards of Bossanova, led by the malevolent Col. Braggadocio. Black wigs, moustaches, etc. are required by the unit's uniform regulations.

They probably had Stagonian mothers . . . but they are handsome brutes.

Why do I suspect it's Col. Benito Braggadocio?

I love 'em! They're so...well... *dark*. They'd scare the living daylights out of me if I saw them across the battlefield.

Reich Duke Wilhelm was heard to say "magnificant body of men". Who makes the figures and what are they?

Hmmnn, I wonder if Stagonia has found an ally at last?

They look like Russian SYW Preobrazhenski Gardes from Foundry (in full formal uniform)

At first I believed to read 'Forces of Baldness': must reflect some personal concern...
Totally irrelevant for the Lace Wars, of course: 'His Baldness' or not, the Bossanovan king for sure wears a wig.

Unless Bossanova is ruled by an Evil Queen (a Queen of Sorrow with some interesting features from Alice's Queen of Hearts)?

Btw, what is the official language in Bossanova? The name is Lusitanian, thus sounds rooted in Latin: Iberic, Occitan, Italian or even -closer to the heart of Europe- Rumanian?

Wow - these guys positively ooze Badness! Right down to the tight black leather murderer gloves on the officer. Infamous! Their foes will surely prefer to use artillery on them rather come to close quarters...

Bravo!

Thanks gentlemen!
The figures are Foundry Russian Guard Grenadiers.
I envision Bossanova more along the lines of Romania/Eastern Europe/Balkans kind of place, rather than Italy, Spain or the like. And although they are insidious malevolent conniving no-goodniks I don't see them as being very successful at it. If you know the old "Get Smart" tv series or Rocky and Bullwinkle think along the lines of KAOS or the country Boris and Natasha are from (Pottsylvania? Can't recall at the moment). They are ruled by a king, Boris "the Boar" Badenov, and his queen (lots of room for bickering between these 2 and their factions).
Not sure how far I will take their forces (or other details for that matter)- they may show up as dubious allies in some future battles, maybe play a role as the foreign European baddies in Colonial games.
They may look menacing, but like as not they'll be backstabbing each other as much as their enemies. On the battlefield this could manifest itself as animosity between different units and commanders, refusing to follow orders, stopping to taunt each other or even to get into internecine brawls.

Yep, sounds like the perfect ally for Stagonia!

Bossanovans always operate in the dark. ;)

Painting lots of black is tricky. It's easy for it to just look like you left the undercoat and didn't finish painting. Adding highlights in other colors can look like the highlight is the real color and the black is the shadow. I tried highlighting with a bit of dark blue, but I couldn't get it right. I think it takes a very light touch.

Our Arts teacher et school explaine dus that true black is NOT a color, since it cannot be darkened.
Thus the conveniently easy 'dipping' trick does not work; highlighting with very dark neutral grey? Natural light and shadows are probably enough.

They sounds like the Bordurians to me! Must be their cousins. Shed a tear for poor Syldavia, to have such neighbours as these...
