The first tartan here is similar to a "real world" Urquhart tartan as shown in one of my reference books. Other possibilities are shown below.
Next up, some possible uniforms for the regular infantry of Bossanova. The actual cut/style is unknown at this point, but as they are described as "foreign" Soweiter artists chose to use the same Tippelbruder templates as are used for the Batrachian forces.
Finally, some of the Batrachian forces. The first 2 (the light blue and the light yellow) are confirmed from actual examples (that is, I have painted toy soldiers in these colors or close facsimiles thereof).
As always, the Soweiter League offers much thanks to David Linienblatt (sp?) of Tippelbruder for generously providing wonderful uniform templates for all and sundry!

As do I. Nice to see someone using the Russian template, as well. Although that grenadier hat always makes me think of a fireman's helmet. :>
What could I say but 'Thanks'? Very pleasant 'fictitious' uniforms, the kind that can persuade 'historicals' to take the plunge and design their own Imagi-Nation!

and, snickering, I know what you mean about the fireman's helmet; I kept thinking about that the whole time I was working on that uniform. chuckle
With ostreich plumes (as worn by the ' Czar's own' elite company of one Guard regiment, and by the Chevaliers-Gardes), the helmet looks far less... 'odd'.
As for the whole uniform in tartan... well, I'm not the one who would have to do the painting on a 'Big Battalion', so I'm unbiased!
May I suggest that, to increase the distinguishing 'national characteristics' of the uniforms, since the League has grenadiers with mitre and Bossanovan ones wear the Russian helmet-mitre, the Batrachian grenadiers would sport a bearskin? It would be 'historically fiting' with the rest of the uniform...
Well, *too* historical, not original enough, actually? So what about Bossanovan grenadiers with bearkin (they would even 'darker') and Batrachian ones with the helmet-mitre?

The renderings of Bossanovan uniforms, as shown here, only make use of the Russian templates because the artists only know the uniforms are foreign (that is, non-Soweiter) and the main foreign uniforms they are familiar with are the Batrachian ones. :-) (besides, at this point I don't know what minis I would use for Bossanova, if I ever get to that point)
The Batrachians will in all likelihood end up with the Russian-style helmets, since I do have minis for those and want to get a respectable (as opposed to the disreputable Bossanovan army) Batrachian army painted up to go against my Soweiter League army (some day).
I do appreciate all of the input. It makes me think, even if I don't follow all of the suggestions. :-D

Of course, the truth is that the fireman's helmet was initially inspired in European use by European military helmets of the 19th century, rather than the other way round...
